Dharma, Nature

In Buddhist teachings they tell a story of a Master teacher who sees a scorpion in the water drowning. He reaches down to rescue it and the scorpion stings him. He sets it down and it walks off. A few days later he sees the scorpion drowning again and he proceeds to reach down and rescue it again. On picking it up the scorpion stings him again. One of the students who was watching said, "Master, why do you persist to rescue the scorpion when he continues to sting you?" The teacher said, "Because IT IS my dharma to rescue and it is the scorpions dharma to sting. That does not change me and my nature. I am a rescuer and his nature as a stinger does not have to alter what I am."
